Senior Process Engineer

Blackfield Associates are assisting our client in the search for an Senior Process Engineer to join our client company on a permanent basis. Our client is an ambitious start-up recently funded several R&D projects related to the production and purification of bio-ingredients and bio-materials for its use in nutraceutical, cosmetics and fertiliser products. The person will collaborate with the company researchers, other research centers and national and international companies over Europe. The project outcomes will be several pilot plants run by different companies where we will deploy our developments in terms of technologies and products. As Senior Process Engineer, you will plan and implement specified projects, particularly new process development projects, and keep them on schedule from start to completion date. This includes managing the process development, scale-up and engineering activities listed in the project timelines and monitoring the output of all project participants (including partners, co-workers, contract manufacturers and consultants). The position may require some trips around Europe to project meetings for no more than 3 days. The successful candidate will work closely to the CEO and have high responsibility and decision-making, a multi-tasking role, young environment and highly flexible schedule with the possibility of working from home. Duties: Work collaboratively with the R&D team to develop manufacturing processes and undersand all the unit operations and bottlenecks. Develop documentation for new processes including PFDs, mass and energy balances, P&IDs, etc. Identification of equipment suppliers and communication with them for quotations and procurement. Communication with contract manufacturers and facilitate equipment specs and operation conditions. Coordinate the installation of the designed equipment. Prioritize and manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines. Develop policies and procedures as needed within the area of responsibility. Work with the operation to troubleshoot technical, processing issues during pilot plant runs. Requirements: BSc in Chemical Engineering or related field required. Minimum of 5 years related experience in the biotech, chemical, pharmaceutical, or cosmetic product industry. Knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment regulations, including ATEX/DSEAR and COSHH. High command of chemical simulation softwares such as SuperPro Designer or Aspen Plus. Familiarity with fermentation and downstream techniques. Experience with the production of varied chemicals, food or cosmetic ingredients. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Proficient in Microsoft Office products. Strong documentation, organization and time management skills. Familiarity with good manufacturing practices (GMPs) and regulations for dietary supplements / Cosmetic products preferred.
