Senior Scientist (Immunology), Screening Services Location: Cambridge Salary: Competitive About the Company: Horizon Discovery is seeking two Senior Scientists, highly experienced in Immunology, to work within our Screening Services department. As a Senior Scientist you will aid the continued expansion of our state-of-the-art CRISPR-Cas9 and compound Screening Platforms. You will be responsible for developing and using screening assays in Primary Human Immune Cell types for fee-paying commercial clients, internal research programmes as well as for the purposes of developing new services. You will design and execute research programmes and your daily activities will directly align to and benefit Horizon's goals and values. This is a lab-based role and candidates should be highly self-motivated, able to work to tight timelines and be comfortable working under pressure in an environment with shifting priorities. Senior Scientist Responsibilities: Working to a brief, design, plan and perform complex and potentially novel Immunology screening assays with minimal support and supervision. Confidently engage with customers on a scientific level to: Understand their scientific needs Design research programmes that answer their key scientific questions Report on milestone delivery and project status Discuss results and next steps with customers Analyse and interpret experimental data; identify and solve experimental problems Prepare high quality client facing data packages and reports, clearly disseminating the results of that research to the team and relevant stakeholders Maintain an awareness of the internal & external developments in own scientific discipline and related disciplines current and apply these to each project Proactively suggest and evaluate new techniques Design and implement new ways of working that have a direct impact on productivity Use expertise to develop new ideas for innovation Provide mentorship to more junior scientists Follow and give instructions, comply with company policies and be an effective team member in supporting the research and development functions in Horizon Senior Scientist Requirements: Relevant work experience after PhD (or equivalent experience) An expert in human immunology, with a broad knowledge of various immune cell types and the ability to quickly learn new techniques and areas of biology Experience isolating and handling primary human immune cells and performing standard immunological and flow cytometry assays, such as those commonly employed at Horizon (https://research-services/immuno-oncology) Proven experience and enthusiasm for assay development Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal Logical, analytical, creative and self-critical Flexible, adaptable and able to work in a matrix-managed environment A careful and meticulous nature with exceptional attention to detail Proven ability to disseminate research results through oral presentations and publication in reports and peer reviewed journals Desirable: Experience of working in an industrial setting Experience of pooled and arrayed high-throughput assays, use of automation and handling large datasets including data QC, analysis, generating relevant graphical representations etc Experience with transfection/electroporation and techniques to modulate gene expression in primary immune cells e.g. CRISPR-Cas9, siRNA, shRNA etc Safe handling and production of lentiviral reagents Some knowledge of programmatic aspects of research (cost, resources and schedule Extensive experience of cell culture and aseptic techniques If you think that you are suitable for this Senior Scientist (Immunology) Screening Services role, please apply now Horizon Delivers inspired solutions that harness the power of the cell.
