Laboratory Technician The EpiCentre- Haverhill Package: Salary £27,500 (FTE) plus benefits Part-time (0.6FTE) permanent position (Working hours 9 am to 1.30 pm Monday to Friday with some flexibility required) Reporting to: Centre Manager Oxford Innovation operates a network of centres that offer flexible office, access to finance and business support services across the UK for a variety of public and private sector clients. These centres provide space to innovate for over 1,000 exciting and growing companies: our customers. Making sure our customers have the best experience is a real team effort and as a member of the centre managementteam for our new Innovation Centre - The EpiCentre - you will be a key part of this. We are seeking a Laboratory Technician with practical laboratory experience, preferably in a Biology, Biochemistry or Life Science discipline, to ensure the sustained operational efficiency of our shared laboratory space at the EpiCentre, Haverhill, Suffolk. Working within the centre team, you will take responsibility for all core laboratory processes and procedures by Oxford Innovation staff and customers, with a focus on laboratory equipment maintenance, cleaning, health and safety and the delivery of excellent customer service. What will you do? The Laboratory Technician will assist in the day to day running of the shared laboratories, to a high standard and in a safe and compliant manner that is clean, well maintained and in good order, ensuring that consumables are supplied and customers are supported in their workplace activities. You will also be responsible for ensuring that a secure environment is maintained for lab users, visitors and staff in compliance with legal requirements, and that records are maintained, and waste is disposed of by the correct routes. An excellent understanding of health & safety policies and procedures, and specifically COSHH best practice, is therefore essential. The role is supported by the Operations Team and you will be an active member of the Oxford Innovation Safety Committee, alongside the other Laboratory Technicians, to share and develop best practice, maintain compliance, manage cost and to drive income and revenue opportunities and other commercial objectives. What are you like? If you have relevant experience in a life science subject area (see above: degree level education in a science is preferable) this may be the role for you. We are seeking a team player with organisational and communication skills, who is meticulous and able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Practical laboratory experience is essential; experience of working within a Containment Level 2 laboratory and knowledge of Hazard Group 2 pathogens would be desirable but is not essential. There is also an opportunity to work extra hours for our lab customers as and when they require support. What's in it for you?
