Job role As a part of the Engineering/support team, you will be assisting in building scalable solutions that provide middleware connectivity between point of sale software/hardware and 3 rd party services. Location The position will be based in the Midlands, but will involve occasional travel to client locations and other Sparkle offices. An element of home working will also be available. Background Sparkle develops middleware software for use in the retail industry. Our 'POS Bridge' solution is the gateway for digital transformation within the global retail sector. Our Retail Platform seamlessly connects physical Point of Sale systems to digital applications in real-time, unlocking and interacting with the retail transactional data. Roles & responsibilities:
• Liaison with the Sparkle sales team, as well as clients and resellers
• Provide client/reseller technical support (level 2)
• Creation of user stories / process flows / swim lanes
• Build and management of UK POS Lab
• Testing of POS Apps in POS Lab
• Advising / guiding the development team on POS solutions
• Support the onboarding of new retailers
• Installation of POS Apps on client sites
• Producing client report specifications Essential Skills and Experience:
• Experience working in the retail industry with a solid understanding of end-user POS system interaction
• Experience with configuration of POS systems: receipt printing, screen layout, macros, firewalls.
• Knowledge and hands-on experience of POS applications and SQL server
• Experience with implementation and replacement of legacy POS applications & hardware
• API Experience calling RESTful services from with HttpClient, TCP/IP, Sockets, etc.
• Knowledge or expertise of Middleware development platforms.
• Excellent analytical, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills coupled with a strong work ethic.
• Experience working on an Agile team.
• Excellent management skills and the ability to meet or exceed deadlines in fast paced environment.
• Experience writing technical documentation: support documents, installation procedures, manuals.
• Remote systems troubleshooting and debugging.
• Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
• Full UK driving licence. Beneficial experience:
• Payments or general POS systems development experience a strong plus.
• Experience with cloud POS integrations such as Revel, Square, Toast, Clover.
• Database skills including table layout and design, SQL Queries, and stored procedures - MS-SQL/MySQL.
• JAVA POS system integrations
