Our Assistant Hydrogeologist role: This is an exciting, challenging role within our Technical Team within the Environment department and offers excellent opportunities for growth and development for achieving Chartered Status. Responsibilities of our Assistant Hydrogeologist: - Assisting with investigations into the complex issue of rising mine water in the UK coalfields to develop a strategy for preventing future pollution from new mine water outbreaks - Supporting the development of the hydro-geochemical databases or similar environmental databases to store and graphically present monitoring data, with an emphasis on continual improvement - Analysing and appraising monitoring data, as collected and reported by the Authority's contractor's, and also supplied by third parties - Developing and maintaining expert knowledge of monitoring techniques and equipment - Conducting visits to field monitoring sites, completing inspections, installing, maintaining and checking data logging equipment, and collecting ad hoc additional data - Reviewing monthly reports from contractors - Assisting in managing the provision of data from contractors, ensuring it is on time, in full, in the agreed format and accurate - Monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of water level control by the completed preventive schemes, reviewing their efficiency and completing risk assessments - Gaining a detailed knowledge and awareness of the mine water recovery position in the coalfields and providing advice - Assisting the Environment team in programming future preventive schemes and future borehole and monitoring requirements - Assisting in compiling and project managing the borehole drilling programme - Providing professional hydrogeological advice to support the non-coal programme - Contributing to the production of technical reports for clients - Assisting in identifying and advising on efficiency savings - Ensuring the ICT systems related to mine water data are maintained - Dealing with enquiries about problems being experienced due to mine water - Assisting the Geochemist in developing and maintaining field stores What we're looking for in our Assistant Hydrogeologist: - Degree in Geology or similar - Experience in practical hydrogeology - Knowledge of drilling techniques and geophysical logging - Experience of GIS systems - Excellent IT skills - Report writing skills - The ability to interpret underground water monitoring data - The ability to specify and install data loggers in shafts and boreholes - The ability to complete flow monitoring and sampling at field sites - Full UK driving licence, or equivalent If you believe you are the right candidate for the role as our Assistant Hydrogeologist then please click 'apply' now We'd love to hear from you.
