Secondary School Department Assistant

Are you a recent graduate looking to gain experience in a school environment and embark upon a career in education? Connex Education are working with a number of fantastic secondary schools across Nottingham, who are seeking to recruit passionate and motivated graduates from all academic disciplines to join them to help with department assistant work in secondary schools. As a department assistant, you will show initiative and a drive to help students succeed by supporting them in the classroom, either in a group setting or on a one-to-one basis, in a variety of subjects. In this role you will assist students with completing their work and help the class teacher promote a positive and successful learning environment, helping to keep students on task and engaged with the subject. On some occasions you will also be required to work as a cover supervisor and take the class where the teacher is absent. In this instance you will be handing out pre-set work or running a pre-set lesson to the class and manging student's behaviour to ensure the goals of the lesson are reached. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable, paid experience in schools which will assist you should you wish to apply for teacher training in the future. Connex Education Partnership can also support this journey into becoming a qualified teacher via our sister company The Teacher Training Partnership, helping you gain PGCE with QTS in one year To be a successful Department Assistant you will need:
• Confidence and the ability to engage with pupils aged 11-16
• Excellent organisational skills
• Degree educated (in any discipline)
• Good behaviour management skills
