The Role The fluorescent Tags team have a vacancy for a Post-Doctoral Researcher to help accelerate development of the company's novel, extremely bright, fluorescent tags for use in fluorescence imaging. You will work as a part of an interdisciplinary team that includes Chemists, Physicists and Bio chemists. The role will involve collaborating with the client's multifunctional technical team, the market evaluation and intellectual property team, and with external open innovation partners. Within this role you will synthesise and characterise novel fluorescent nanoparticles to meet technical requirements and to produce proposals to adapt and improve fluorescent tags for new application areas. Skills and Experience Essential Chemistry PhD, or a Chemistry degree coupled with equivalent industrial work experience. Demonstrated expertise in the design, synthesis, purification, functionalisation, and characterisation of novel nanoparticles to meet a technical need. An aptitude for creative thinking, problem solving, and delivering novel solutions for unmet needs. Clear and confident communication when discussing complex technical concepts, with the ability to tailor to appropriate levels for different audiences. Proactivity and excellent self-motivation with an ability to acquire new skills and areas of expertise. Strong team-work and the ability to operate in multi-disciplinary / cross-functional teams. An eye for detail and the ability to follow and accurately record data for controlled processes Desirable Experience with the applications of fluorescent tags for use in fluorescence imaging. Experience of working with luminescent materials. Experience in organic synthesis. Experience in the Stöber process for making silica nanoparticles. Experience with Dynamic Light Scattering and Zeta Potential analytical techniques. Experience of programming for automation of data analysis. An inquiring mind, with a broad interest in current trends outside current speciality, particularly towards materials development. Experience of generation of Intellectual Property (IP). Experience of evaluation of market needs and construction of business cases. Experience in identifying collaboration partners.
