Senior Advisor - Climate Adaptation and Early Action Location: Flexible within the UK Hours: 35 hours per week Contract type: Fixed Term Contract (12 months) Salary: £40,000 per annum (plus £3,344 London Weighting if applicable Closing date: Monday, the 3rd of May 2021 We have an exciting opportunity for a collaborative and influential International Humanitarian Policy professional to lead on high-profile Climate events, culminating with the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) being held in Glasgow in November. What you will be doing Following an internal secondment, we are looking for a Senior Advisor for Climate Adaptation and Early Action, who will work as part of our dynamic team of advisors and humanitarian experts in law and policy, and play a key advisory role within our high profile Climate agenda. Reporting to the Head of Humanitarian Policy, you will provide input to climate policy based on best practice from the Red Cross Red Crescent movement and ensure the relevant teams across the BRC are coordinated in order to capitalise upon the increasing public and political focus on climate change, COP26 and the launch of the Risk informed Early Action Partnership (REAP) In this dynamic and collaborative role, you will represent the BRC within the wider Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and UK humanitarian sector and scale up international climate action work, recognising strategic opportunities to develop longer-term initiatives to ensure the integration of climate as a cross-cutting issue across all areas of humanitarian policy and wider. What we are looking for With a strong understanding of the UK Government's role, policies and capacities when it comes to climate change adaptation and Early Warning Early Action, you will have knowledge, experience or a demonstrable interest in policy development, relevant to the International climate work of the British Red Cross. You will have great partnership and communication skills, able to negotiate, influence and network with donors and peer organisations, representing an organisation within external fora and drive forward policy recommendations. You will have excellent organisational and project management skills (including budget management and funding proposal), having previously managed multiple or complex projects from conception to evaluation. You will be naturally insightful, with the ability to analyse both quantitative and qualitative data from a variety of sources and interpret information to communicate to and persuade decision makers/ different audiences, both written and verbal. More about the International Directorate The International Directorate is responsible for international disaster response, support to resilience programmes and organisational development of our partner Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The work of the International Directorate also includes humanitarian policy and advocacy activities, and International Humanitarian Law. British Red Cross' international work is carried out in coordination and partnership with the International Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement.
