MM Flowers are seeking to add to the team, an experienced and proactive Packaging Technologist. JOB TITLE: Packaging Technologist REPORTING TO: Head of Technical DEPARTMENT: Technical LOCATION: Alconbury, Huntingdon MAIN PURPOSE To manage of all technical aspects of packaging including functionality, design, and cost and to work with the Sustainability Team to oversee ethical and environmental elements packaging material sourcing, together with a focus on reducing packaging and ultimate suitability for recyclability of finished materials. MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: - Managing packaging projects, working across business functions particularly NPD, from concept through to launch - Lead packaging development processes, owning specifications and ensuring materials delivered meet the specifications - Manage and lead the weekly packaging meeting, with timely completion of packaging workflows - Ownership of essential tasks such as maintaining specifications and any packaging trials/tests - Liaising with Commercial, Buying, Technical and Projects teams, with the Technical & Operations Directors as your main points of contact - Liaising with the planning team to land new designs on time - Work with Sustainability Team Researching and advising on the new materials and sustainability developments - Support in the development and creation of briefs, liaising with suppliers to collate all the required information (with accurate cutting/folding guides, complete production information, product certifications, recyclability etc.) ahead of the design phase - Ensuring packaging products meet set requirements and specifications - Working with graphic designers to make sure the artwork fits in with the customers brand guidelines - Knowledge and understanding of print/finish processes and the ability to problem solve any print challenges that may arise SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: - Good knowledge of packaging guidelines, legislation standards and product certifications - Knowledge of sustainability and packaging such as - life cycle analysis and circular economy - Literate with MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & Teams. - Experience in Retail packaging production and the end to end processes, with strong commercial and operational awareness - Knowledge of cardboard packaging for direct to consumer delivery, retail trade packaging, packaging papers & films and labelling - Self-starter and self-driven to deliver projects with excellence and on time in a fast paced and complex environment. - A multitasker who works cooperatively with other team members and can navigate multiple briefs/ product categories at a time - Excellent knowledge of packaging design, printing, and accurate, up to date knowledge of labelling regulation standards and UK product certifications - Strong technical skills, with very good attention to detail - An understanding of basic design and concepts - Sustain a high level of competence and a willingness to work flexibly within an ever-changing business landscape What are we looking for? - A graduate/post-graduate qualification (or similar), although extensive experience in a similar role would be considered - Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, confidence to speak to individuals of all levels and backgrounds both one to one and in groups - Consultative, influencing and proactive approach - works in partnership with the business at all levels. - High attention to detail, with strong organisational skills. - Ability to work on own initiative and also in collaboration with others. - Pragmatism - ability to step back and make considered decisions - Full UK approved driving licence This job was originally posted as www.totaljobs.com/job/92512325
