Have the opportunity to build a rewarding and meaningful career as part of the team committed to improving the lives of millions with cancer.What you'll doIn this role you will join a team of in vitro and in vivo virologists/biologists in the Cancer Virotherapy group to support oncolytic virus programs in AstraZeneca's Early Discovery portfolio. You will design, produce, isolate, and characterize next generation oncolytic viruses with improved therapeutic potential. You will be accountable for the delivery of data to develop new pipeline projects, and requires in vitro expertise in cell biology, molecular biology, and protein biochemistry techniques. The successful candidate will be expected to spend a majority of their time in the lab performing in vitro experiments working with oncolytic viruses and human cancer cell lines and primary ex vivo human or mouse tumor samples. You will serve as a resource and expert in the field of oncolytic viruses/molecular virology with the expectation to eventually teach, mentor, and develop direct reports or other colleagues within our Oncology department. You will be given the opportunity to present research findings internally and at external meetings and to publish in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to patent filings. Finally, you will interact and collaborate with AstraZeneca science leaders across disciplines to guide the strategic direction for our oncolytic virus portfolio.Essential for the rolePh.D., PharmD or equivalent advanced degree in Molecular Virology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Oncology or a related field.Molecular virology experience, preferably in the development of oncolytic viruses.Experience with a range of in vitro and ex vivo cell biology skills relevant to virology, cancer biology, and/or immunology. May include expertise in a range of tissue culture techniques including culture of ex vivo tissue explants, human and mouse immune cell characterization, and analytical methods such as multi-parametric flow cytometry, ELISA, qPCR, and cell viability assays.Highly developed problem solving and time management skills.Effective communication skills and experience in delivering oral presentations and written reports.Excellent team player with good interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively across teams.Desirable for the roleRecognized contributor in oncolytic virology, or related field, as evidenced by a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.Knowledge and hands-on experience in the design, engineering, production, isolation and characterization of novel recombinant viruses, which may include oncolytic viruses.Experience within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry and the drug discovery process and/or academic experience with viruses as therapeutics (oncolytic viruses, viruses as vectors or vaccine platforms).Hands on experience in mining and interpretation of biological datasets such as RNAseq, TCGA, or other open-source or in-house genomic datasets.Experience in immunology and immuno-oncology, including the combination of oncolytic virotherapy with immunotherapies or other standard-of-care therapies.Why AstraZeneca?At AstraZeneca we're dedicated to being a Great Place to Work.
