Network Software Engineer

Aspire Cambridge are recruiting for a Network Software Engineer to join a growing international business. You will join Product focused software team, building and testing software for a industry-leading all-optical network switch. In this role, you'll work within a small, embedded software team, designing, implementing and maintaining software applications in C. You'll also design software tests for those applications and write and maintain design documentation. Essential skills and experience Qualified to degree or PhD level in relevant subject At least 5 year's relevant experience in a software development environment C programming in an embedded environment. Understanding of POSIX API and Linux development Networked applications using IPC, TCP & UDP via sockets API knowledge Basic Linux drivers experience on ARM - debugging, modifying drivers to test new hardware, finding hardware faults through software. Scripting experience (eg, shell, python) Basic understanding of software development life cycle models - Waterfall, Agile Familiarity with some of the following: Jenkins CI, git RESTCONF, NETCONF, SNMP, TL1, SCPI SDN or NFV; experience with Open Daylight or ONOS JSONRPC 2.0 Yocto Project Understands open source licencing Network element management, EMS Main tasks and duties Design, implement and maintain software applications in C for embedded products - preferably of a networking equipment in data centre or telecommunication domain. Add new maintainable features in an existing Linux based application or add new application. Re-engineer existing application for new hardware designs, while maintaining the legacy products. Design, implement and maintain software tests for those applications Write and maintain product documentation - requirements, design, user manuals. Provide support to the manufacturing team as required.
