Douglas Laing & Co is a Scottish family business, globally recognised as a leading independent Scotch Whisky specialist with a focus and flair for releasing the finest aged Single Cask and Small Batch bottlings. As we embark on an exciting future with significant strategic plans and projects, we are looking for an experienced Production Accountant with genuine enthusiasm, drive and expertise in managing the performance of production operations to play a key role within our growing business. The newly created role of Production Accountant is integral in the imminent opening of the Douglas Laing Campus in Glasgow, where this well-loved Whisky business will shortly begin operations in its new Distillery, to include warehousing and bottling operations. The role represents an exciting new opportunity to ensure that the company maintains profitability and working capital by providing management with a clear understanding of the cost base and performance of production operations. It will be your responsibility to make recommendations and identify opportunities to make the delivery of Douglas Laing's products and services as cost-efficient and profitable as possible. Reporting to the Finance Director, you will be responsible for:
• Responsibility for the maintenance and timely creation of all stock, cost and production related master data.
• Collecting and validating data to determine both fixed and variable costs of business activity such as rent, raw material purchases, inventory and labour
• Analysing changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided, to determine effects on cost
• Analysing and reporting actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs and variances
• Recording cost information for use in controlling expenditures
• Recommending cost-saving options
• Performing ongoing reconciliations of various cost reports against SAP systems to ensure accuracy
• Providing management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products or services
• Initiating the month-end closing and reporting processes relating to production operations and processes
• Managing physical inventory inspections and monitoring inventory management information systems
• Responsibility for producing detailed and accurate production and operation management accounts information on a monthly basis for incorporation into group reports.
• Producing periodic forecast and budgets on standard costs and operational P&Ls
• To generate daily KPI reports which are used to measure operational performance including labour efficiency & waste reporting.
• Supporting the continued development of processes and systems within the business
• Providing support across the wider business, acting as a business partner to other teams
• To challenge the status quo and drive efficiency in process and reporting During this period of rapid growth, you will also be expected to assist the greater finance team in the delivery of key periodic commercial and financial information:
• Preparation of components of periodic management accounts pack including divisional, departmental and segmental information and ensuring that all information is accurate and reconciled.
• Preparing subsidiary and branch management accounts as required
• Aiding the budget and forecast procedures for these areas.
• Supporting the Finance Manager with other day to day responsibilities as required.
• Producing monthly or adhoc Regional, Market, Brand P&Ls
• Supporting the Finance Manager with other day to day responsibilities as required. You will be a fully qualified Accountant with significant post-qualified experience in production accounting within a Drinks, FMCG, or Production/Manufacturing environment. You will be proactive and energetic, highly commercial and will thrive working in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
