This is an opportunity to contribute to the community within Cambridge by becoming a Board Chair and Trustee at Cambridge Primary Education Trust. Board meetings are held at CB24 9JA when safe to do so. The Academy Ambassadors programme brings the expertise of the business world onto boards at multi-academy trusts (MATs) throughout the country to raise standards of education and improve the life chances of young people, which is critical to our social and economic success. The opportunity Formed in 2012, Cambridge Primary Education Trust is a group of five primary-age schools located across the Somersham to Trumpington Cambridge areas. The trust's schools serve a wide variety of pupil needs, with Somersham Primary School having higher than average numbers of students eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) - an indicator of deprivation, although the trust as a whole is in-line with national averages. Two of the trust's schools are Ofsted rated Good, one Outstanding, and the remaining two are both pending initial Ofsted inspections since opening or converting to an academy. The trust's vision is to develop a self-sustaining partnership of schools that provide an outstanding education for all pupils by offering a broad and balanced curriculum, whilst remaining embedded in the local community. The trust also finds itself in a position for potential further expansion, following from its impressive record of school improvement and innovations in teaching and learning. The board seeks two business leaders, with board level experience in: Chair Role CEO/General Management Corporate Governance Risk Management Trustee Role Growth Management HR The Chair leads the board of non-executive directors, or trustees, managing its business while providing an element of leadership for the organisation as a whole. The role is to hold to account the executive and senior leadership team, most specifically the CEO. The Chair needs to ensure that the board is able to deal with problems and related proposals professionally, both in terms of the skills of the trustees and the way in which it conducts its business. They will have a key role to play in recruiting and inducting new trustees. The Chair also provides strategic leadership and governance for the trust. They are responsible for the safeguarding and education of pupils, as well as for setting and monitoring performance benchmarks. The successful applicant will have a track record of successful Chair/CEO experience. They will have strong inter-personal skills, with an adaptive approach and strategic mind-set. Additionally, they will be committed to the trust's ethos and values. This means having the willingness to devote time and effort to create positive change for pupils. As Chair, they will compliantly budget and monitor expenditure, in line with legal obligations. They will strategise for asset management and risk management, and will develop productive and supportive professional relationships with the board and CEO. As a key member of the board you will support the trust in achieving the following over the next 12 - 24 months: To support all children, staff and families through the impact and consequences that COVID-19 has had on their learning, educational achievements and social wellbeing. To deliver remote and home-based education, as well as education in the trust's schools that is creative, engaging and enables all children to progress to their fullest potential. When children return to school, identify any disparities or gaps in teaching and learning, and adapt teaching practices so that children are able to progress as much as possible in their learning experience. Future plans: To ensure the trust is as efficient and effective as possible in facilitating high quality teaching and learning within all schools. What's involved? Board governance in education is a strategic, 'eyes on, hands off' commitment which typically involves attending c. six board meetings per year/6-8 hours' time per month. You will be responsible for: Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent As an Academy Ambassador, you will join our ambassador network which provides resources, guidance, networking events and webinars to support you in your role.
