Vacancy Information It is East Lothian Council's policy that successful applicants will be placed on the first point of the salary scale. 2 X Temporary for 12 months Days and Hours of Work: Monday-Friday - 09.00-17.00 To start asap An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Benefits Officers to work within the Council's Revenues Service on a full time, temporary basis to assist in the administration of Low Income Pandemic Payments. These posts would normally be based at John Muir House, Haddington, however as a result of the current COVID-19 restrictions, it is likely that the successful candidates will be expected to work from home. IT equipment will be provided. The Scottish Government is providing funding to local authorities to pay a one off Low Income Pandemic Payment of £130 to every household which meets certain Council Tax Reduction and exemption criteria. It is anticipated that around 7000 households will benefit from this payment across East Lothian. The payments will support the wellbeing of people living on low incomes and help them to manage the ongoing impacts of the pandemic on their household finances. The purpose of this role is to assess and process online applications within agreed performance targets and quality standards. The successful candidates must be highly motivated and demonstrate experience and ability working within a customer focused/welfare environment, having had experience of working with vulnerable people in adverse social circumstances. Excellent communication skills are very important and the ability to deal sensitively with customers who are facing financial hardship is a key personal quality which the role requires. The successful candidates will be highly motivated and have the ability to work remotely in an effective way, using Microsoft Office applications and other Council IT systems. Job Requirements Relevant Qualifications Essential: Educated to 'Higher' level, NC or SVQ2 or equivalent and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through previous experience.
