Deputy Town Clerk

Newmarket Town Council require a Deputy Town Clerk

Job Purpose

  1. To work with the Town Clerk, supervising the administration team and ensuring the smooth running of the Town Council office.

  2. To be an active member of the Council’s Management Team.

  3. To assist and deputise for the Town Clerk as necessary, including the role of Proper Officer of the Council.

Main Responsibilities

  1. To report to the Town Clerk.

  2. To work with the Town Clerk and Administration Team to assist the provision of support services in connection with the day to day activities of the Town Council.

  3. To assist the Town Clerk with delegated tasks.

  4. To maintain a range of electronic and paper files and databases relating to Council governance & business.

  5. To arrange, attend and if necessary take minutes of meetings as required.

  6. To be responsible for the ordering of office supplies and other goods and services in accordance with the Town Council’s procedures and delegation.

  7. To work collaboratively with councillors, the public and other stakeholders.

  8. To promote the principles of customer care, equality, quality management and good health and safety standards and to help achieve and maintain Local Council Award status.

  9. To support the public interface and information gateway services.

  10. To undertake other tasks within the competence of the post holder, at the request of the Town Clerk
