The Role: Senior Data Engineer Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week Location: Nottingham - Hybrid working Salary: £50,000 - £70,000 dependant on experience The Data Team within our business is a brand-new function that's been created with data at the heart and minds of growing the business to be a data led company. We want to bring in new data sets to merge with our own to build something creative, that will open new areas of business and improve those areas we already have. You will be collaborating with product owners, marketers, web engineers, back-end engineers, data scientists, business analysts, and more Together you will deliver data capabilities that provide value and features to our customers and partners. • Relational databases, in AWS RDS flavours
• Cloud based No SQL Document Data Stores for applications and analytics
• AWS Glue and other serverless ETL/ELT tools
• Quicksights and/or other cloud-based visualisation tools
• Machine learning AWS tools
• Graph databases

What you'll be doing This is an exciting time to join us, as we re-imagine how we work and deliver technology. You will enjoy the freedom to learn, actively encourage to prove new technologies or capabilities and really drive what you find into working production solutions. You have a capability and passion for writing SQL based interrogation techniques, while either have or desire to learn NoSQL and python based programming.You have a great understanding of data and data stores and how to interrogate them. Responsibilities
• responsible for designing and building a central repository(s) to hold wrangled data for use by the business
• creating data pipelines and a mechanism to monitor and manage these jobs
• responsible for defining and creating metadata in order to support data consumption and governance
• responsible for ensuring audit and access controls are established and create access layers and controls to display "just enough" data that is required
• responsible for setting standards and practices for data storage, naming conventions, partition and sharding strategies across all the data stores
• reviewing performance and suggesting improvement roadmaps
• creating atomic level data models and documenting them
• collaborating with the team to help define and refine process and state technical direction
• mentoring junior members of the team ensuring best practices are developed and then maintained, solving complex problems and utilising differing data landscapes
• working on projects, ranging from maintaining our existing products to building new solutions using a variety of technologies to deliver and support data-based solutions and application based within microservice driven architectures About you You have strong experience of SQL in a relational database flavour, Oracle or MySQL or Postgres preferred You want to feel like you're making a difference, where your ideas turn into solutions You love to learn You want to enable data-informed decisions You're comfortable working in a team:Data team will be a group that decides together You want to be part of an organisation that allows you to be heard and values your input You can identify problems, patterns and are pro-active in addressing them You have knowledge of AWS or a deep desire to become knowledgeable in this area A natural progression for you may have come from one of the following job experiences;
