Event Operations Assistant

Stratford-upon-Avon Town Hall has developed into a major venue not only for civic events but for many private functions. We need help with the set up and break down of furniture and equipment for some of the larger functions. The work, which also involves some routine cleaning and minor maintenance, is offered on an on-call, flexible basis and you would be one of a small team of Operations Assistants who assist us when help is needed

Rate - £10.24 per hour (normal working hours) £14.49 per hour (outside normal working hours) Plus – 15% holiday pay (Government cost of living rise pending)

Job Purpose & Role
  • To assist with the set-up and break-down of furniture and equipment which supports civic functions or private events at the Town Hall;

 

  • To undertake some routine cleaning in the set-up and break-down of events and assist with minor maintenance.

 

Setting up and taking down of Equipment and Furniture

  • Lifting and moving tables, trestles and chairs;

  • Erection and movement of display equipment;

  • Set-up of Council meetings;

  • Assembly of some equipment;

  • Movement to storage of equipment and furniture.

Cleaning
  • Ensure that the premises are maintained in a clean and tidy manner consistent with the use of the premises for internal and external functions;

  • Undertake the polishing of the Town Hall’s wooden floors;

  • Undertake the steam cleaning of the Town Hall’s marble or tiled floors;

  • Ensure that the toilets and taps are functioning properly and they are left in a presentable condition for day to day Town Hall use, or the next hire period;

  • Generally ensure good housekeeping.

 

Hours of Work

Flexible contract - as and when required.

 

The duties above are not intended to be a comprehensive or restricted description of what is expected in the role of Town Hall Operations Assistant. The post holder will be expected to be flexible in his/her approach and should be willing to carry out similar duties commensurate with the grading and designation of the post.

 

 

Health & Safety: The Health & Safety at Work Act requires all employees to observe rules governing health & safety in the workplace and such safety equipment as provided must be used. The Council operates a no-smoking policy in all council premises and vehicles.

Pension Scheme: The post is pensionable. The post-holder may apply to join/opt out of the Local Government Pension Scheme, to which the Council contributes.

 

Probationary Period: A probationary period of six months applies to

new entrants to local government.

 

Attire: Comfortable but presentable attire is expected.

Metal capped shoes will be supplied by the Council and should be worn at all times when working as an Operations Assistant.

The successful applicant will:

 

1) Be punctual and reliable, with a courteous and helpful disposition;

 

2) Have a flexible approach;

 

3) Must be able to work well as part of a team but be intuitive to what is required without direction and have the ability to ‘get on with it’;

 

3) Have the disposition to work outside standard working hours and on weekends, evenings and public holidays;

 

4) Have a basic, working knowledge of the internet, particularly e-mail, as this is the usual method of communication;

 

5) Be physically fit, and free from restriction to lift or move furniture and equipment as this constitutes the main purpose of the Operations Assistant’s job;

 

6) Have a good oral and written command of the English language in order to follow both verbal and written instructions;

 

7) Be prepared to undertake appropriate training, (such as manual handling, working at heights etc.) some of which will be mandatory.
